Star-Studded Event Opens to Spectacular Reviews
(January 2008) After years of planning, hours upon hours of production time, and countless advertisements and e-blasts, The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything - A VeggieTales Movie opened in theatres all across the U.S. and Canada.
The red carpet was unfurled at the Carmike Thoroughbred 20 in Franklin, TN on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 for not only our three beloved Pirates, but any and all who dared walk the red-carpet-plank to see the world-premiere of the latest theatrical release from Big Idea. Among the attendees with their families in tow: TobyMac, Country-crooner Trace Adkins, Relient K, Steve Taylor, Nicole C. Mullen, Tennessee Titan Kyle Vanden Bosch, plus thousands of VeggieFans traveling in from all over Middle-Tennessee and beyond.
The world premiere began sharply at 5:00, but not before words of welcome were offered by the movie's creators, Phil Vischer (writer,) Mike Nawrocki (director) and Paula Marcus (producer.)
As the eager crowd sat in anticipation of what would be the first VeggieTales movie in 6 years, the film started as applause broke out when the credits began to roll. The orchestral score began to roll out a wave of instrumental music which quickly became recognizable as the long-time Veggie-favorite, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything."
Promised and delivered, it was an action-packed movie filled with clever lines, eye-popping animation, tunes from Steve Taylor and the newsboys, TobyMac, and one of the silliest-songs ever, "Rock Monster."
After the premiere, Big Idea celebrated in grand-fashion as the party moved to "The Factory" in Franklin, TN where they served mini-cheeseburgers, root beer floats and other piratey delicacies, as Big Idea's own Pirate-dancers took to the floor to entertain the crowd with their swashbuckling dance routines.
In the days after the movie's release, the reviews came in and the critics loved it! (See some of their comments here.) The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything - A VeggieTales Movie made an impressive showing at the box office, landing in the top ten standing beside some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
