Handkerchiefs, hand towels, or foot-long pieces of rope.

Tell participants to form a tight circle shoulder to shoulder. Grasping one end of a piece of rope with their right hand, ask them to hold out the rope in front of them. Tell participants to use their free left hand to reach across and grab the other end of the rope from a person across from them. Don't form partners -- the people at both ends of the rope must be different. Also, the people at both ends of the rope must be at least two people away from you. Once everyone is connected, ask the group to work together to untangle themselves while holding onto the ropes. When untangled, the group will have formed a complete circle.

What roles did people take to complete the task? How did these roles contribute to the group's success?
