Marbles, kitchen pot, watch, scissors, paper towel rolls.

To set up, cut paper towel rolls in half length-wise. Done correctly, you should have two long pieces that look like gutters. Give one gutter to each person. Tell participants to form a line. The goal is to move as many marbles as possible in five minutes from a starting point to the kitchen pot located at the other side of the room. While inside a gutter, a marble must always be moving forward. If it stops, reverses direction, or falls to the ground, the marble must be placed back at the starting point. Also, participants must stand still when a marble is in their gutter. For a greater challenge, move the kitchen pot further away from the starting point or try to increase the number of marbles you move in five minutes.

How many marbles were you able to move in five minutes? What strategies did the group adopt that worked best? How could you apply these strategies to other areas of your family's life? |
