Two plastic cups with lip diameter larger than the base, small objects, string.

To build your safety container, tie a piece of string around one cup near the lip. Make sure the string is tight so it cannot slide off the top of the cup. Cut a 3' piece of string for each participant. Tie one end of the string to the string that you just attached near the lip of the cup. Do this for each participant until everyone is holding an end of a string that is knotted to the cup. This is your safety container. Fill it with your favorite pretend toxic substance (e.g., ping pong balls, popcorn, etc. -- if you adventurous, use water). Tell participants to work together to pour their "toxic" substance from the safety container to the other cup. Everyone may hold or touch only their end of the string. Nothing else. Aim for a successful pour. Spill some? Recollect your "toxic" substance and try again.

How did participants help one another make a successful pour? How did it feel to rely on others for help? What are some areas where you could accept help from your family? |
